PLEASE MEET ANDREIA AND MATT!

Andreia-Matt-Wedding-2480-Edit-2

Andreia and Matt are a couple who decided that instead of giving their wedding guests thank you gifts, they would make a donation to a charity on their guests’ behalf. We are so fortunate that these two decided to select The Mercy Project as their charity. They gave each guest a card explaining what our projects do and how they can learn more about our organization.

We had an opportunity to ask them why they decided to donate and more specifically, to us, and here’s what they said:

The way we looked at it we could give a lot of little gifts or one big gift. And we felt that giving one big gift to a charity was something that was important to us and that would be appreciated by our guests. We wanted to share with our family and friends the opportunity to take part in a grand gesture. Unlike other big charities, The Mercy Project was more personal and meaningful to us. We knew who we were giving the money to and where it would go. It was easy to trust those already giving so generously to the project and we are thankful that we were able to contribute.

Thanks again Andreia and Matt! We wish you all health, happiness, and a very happy one-year anniversary!

Love,

The Mercy Project

Montreal, November 26, 2025

To our amazing supporters,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of the Mercy Project. After 17 wonderful years, we have reached a point where we are no longer able to dedicate the time required to ensure the organization’s stability, maintenance, and the level of partnership that our beneficiaries deserve.

Founded in 2008 by 7 volunteers (Daniel L., Dan M., Jamie, Jen, Kasia, Meera, and Tara), the Mercy Project began with a modest goal: to raise funds to ensure continued access to essential health resources for babies, children, and community members of the Sport Outreach Institute in Koro, Gulu County, Uganda.

Since those early days, the organization has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to expand healthcare access for the children of St. Jude’s Children’s Home in Gulu, provide sustainable electricity to Paipir Elementary School in Pader, and support the livelihoods of nurses and midwives in South Sudan.

While we are deeply saddened to bring this chapter to a close, we are also incredibly proud of what we have achieved and how long this small initiative has endured. If you had told us in 2008 that we would still be active nearly two decades later, we probably wouldn’t have believed you.

As a long-time donor, we want to sincerely thank you for placing your trust in us. Your generosity has made a real difference, helping us sustain vital programs and strengthen the communities we all care about. We are proud to share that since our founding, over 95% of all donations received were delivered directly to the people and communities in need. Few organizations can make that claim, and it was only possible thanks to the countless volunteers who gave their time and energy over the years.

If you wish to continue supporting the St. Jude Children’s Home or Sports Outreach Ministry in Gulu, we warmly encourage you to consider donating to Social Promise, a U.S.-based charity that supports both St. Jude and Lacor Hospital in Gulu. For Sports Outreach, donations can be made directly through their website: https://www.sportsoutreach.net/give.
Please note that any active recurring donations to the Mercy Project will be canceled before the end of December.

From all of us who have lovingly supported this organization over the years, thank you for being part of this journey, and for helping us work toward a more just and equitable world.

With love and gratitude,
The Mercy Project Team
